One Village, One Preschool
In August, 2015, the Sichuan Provincial Party and Provincial Government created 17 new
poverty supporting policies for the Liangshan Yi region, including a policy for “one village, one
preschool”, which will see the establishment of preschools in 2,586 villages. The province will
provide funding for two bilingual counsellors in Mandarin and Yi in each school.
The execution of this program hopes to stop generational poverty from its root cause by
providing developmental foundations for Yi children in such villages.
To support this government initiative, Fu Hui is donating a special lunch fee to sponsor these
children. 3 Chinese Yuan will be given to each child so that they can eat better. This
amounts to 100 Yuan per child per year, and there will be 600 children in 21 classes.
Besides, to address the problem of inadequate ECE (early childhood education) teachers, Fu
Hui will be working with ECE teacher’s colleges to sponsor ECE classes in order to
encourage graduates to work as preschool teachers in these villages as well as in the poverty
stricken mountain areas.
