Letter from Vocational School student
I would not disappoint all thosewho care about me
Se Lian Me Gan A Mu Fu Hui Class Graduate, Shanghai Shipyard Technical School
I have been a Fu Hui student since primary school enjoying your funding over the past 11-12 years. I’ve had my ups and downs – in the beginning when I felt sad I would hide in the corner and cry.
Things changed when I got to Junior High. I set my own goals. I’ve stayed strong no matter what happened to me. Poor school grades don’t discourage me. When I felt like giving up I think about the many people who are supporting me, caring about my success. Then I know I cannot give up.
This is my third year at the Shanghai shipping mechanics program. It was hard when we first got to Shanghai. But we had Mr. Ho looking after us. He was our father and mother; perhaps even more important than my own parents. There he was, day in and day out – minding what we wore, what we ate. And gradually we adapted. In my home town I never saw a subway. In Shanghai I take the subway every day. At home we didn’t have computers; now I do my work on a computer every day. All the teachers and leaders care about our well being – it feels like heaven!
Now I am at a placement position, learning new things. In the beginning I didn’t know how to take an order. Now I can take care of everything except for some after sale tasks. I can manage everything I need to do without asking for help. My employer said I have improved a lot in the last few months. I know that any new knowledge is mine to keep. In order to not disappoint the people who have helped me and supported me, I will continue to work harder and harder.
