Vocational Program - Story of a Student
Being a “Three Best” Student in Shanghai
Jiermesezuo has been a Fu Hui recipient since she was accepted into Fu Hui’s girls class in 2011. Her mother died when she was eight, and her father had to leave home to work to repay the medical debt they owed due to her mother’s illness. As a result, Jiermesezuo and her younger sister were raised by their grandmother. Her sister chose to drop out of school when she was thirteen so that Jiermesezuo could continue her education.
Three Best Student
Through hard work, Jiermesezuo completed her junior school education and was accepted into the vocational school program sponsored by Fu Hui. She studied the E-commerce program at Shanghai Shipyard Technical School. With the valuable opportunity of continuing her education, she cherished every moment at school, trying her very best to be successful.
Jiermesezuo’s family background is typical in the Liangshan area. It was her determination and diligence that made her stand out. During her two years at the school, she became the student leader of some two thousand students and was also the team party secretary of her class. Her English skills improved tremendously, and she was the MC for numerous school events. Recently, she was chosen “Three Best” student. Here is how she was described in the school newspaper:
“As a student sponsored by the school and by social communities, she strongly treasured her hard-to-get learning opportunities in Shanghai. She was very serious about her professional classes as well as her theoretical and practical lessons. She knew that the best ways to repay those who had helped and supported her were to study hard and get good marks. Many times during the day, she would reflect and remind herself to see if she had completed her assignments, if she had studied her lessons, if she had worked on her notes, and if she had paid attention in class. After continuous hard work and support from her teachers, she finally got excellent marks and passed the beginner computer exam with distinctions, which got her the honour of ‘Three Best Performances’ student. She also got a second prize at the Shanghai Primary and Secondary School Writing Contest, and had since published many articles in school and in magazines.”
Expressing Gratitude through Giving Back
Jiermesezuo has been very grateful for Fu Hui’s sponsorship, and she knows that for her to repay such kindness, the best thing is to help others in need. “She has been grateful and therefore, she founded the Loving Society in her class to spread love to others. She raised funds to support other students in her class and in the school who had financial problems. She was also an active leader in class for volunteerism. She has since organized four student groups to visit senior homes and has brought warmth and happiness to the elderly.
In the summer of 2015, Jiermesezuo returned to her hometown to tutor the local children. She taught them all she had learned in Shanghai, told them about her friends and what she saw in Shanghai. She also taught them English and songs.”
Jiermesezuo’s grandmother died when she was in junior middle school. Her father also passed away before the Spring Festival this year. She and her sister have since become orphans. Fortunately, her younger sister, who dropped out of school earlier, has now returned to school. Jiermesezuo promised to support her sister to finish her education. As described in the school newspaper, “she strongly believes that with hard work, sooner or later, there will be rewards, no matter how big or small they will be. But if one doesn’t work hard, rewards will never come. It’s important to be a good person first before doing anything, a “three good” person – say good things, perform good deeds, and have a good heart. We should learn to use subtraction for hate, addition for love, division for worries, and multiplication for gratitude.”
Jiermesezuo never gives up despite her misfortunes. She repays the world bearing the love from Fu Hui, and she has become Fu Hui’s pride.
