Ayi Library is Open! A Warm Heart, Illuminating Knowledge

The long awaited Ayi Library is open, let’s find out more!

1. What is Ayi Library?

It is a joint initiative by Fu Hui Education Foundation, LiangShan Education Foundation Ayi Student Aid Foundation, and ZhongNan Economics University Law School Volunteer Association “Su Zhengmin” Volunteer Team. It is a project supported by Sichang College Blue Eagle Youth Dream Team, Class 110/119, and Fire Department Safety Committee.

2. How did Ayi Library start?

Collecting books

Some books came from donations, some were collected locally. The library interiors were set up by volunteers from Sichang College.

The Sichang College volunteers sorted the books by categories and arranged them systematically on bookshelves. They also set up groups of tables and chairs in preparation for the young student readers.

3. Traversing the Seas of Knowledge

“Reading ten thousands books, travel ten thousand miles”

Without going to all corners of the world, books can take us there. Ayi Library is for the children who have relocated to LiangShan Sichang, the city workers who return on weekends, and students home on school holidays. It is a place where they can read books, study or do their homework. A place to share learning and expand their education; a platform to learn and grow. Ayi Library can take them across the globe, exploring the wonders of the world.

Quietly reading, sharing what they learn with volunteers, and getting assistance from volunteers who are only too happy to help.

This is a group of children eager to learn.

4. Concerts

Concerts and poetry workshops can enhance the learning experience.

The concerts may not be grand but they are full of warmth and joy. Everyone is singing with abandon, enjoying the music as they express themselves.

Volunteers and students sing together, getting a boost in their energy!

Have no Fear

Sichang College volunteers sing and play music for the students, encouraging them to be brave and persevere. Buoyed by the music, students’ eyes beam with hope, perhaps imagining themselves learning an instrument.

5. Poetry Workshops

“Words and ink in my heart, poetry and writing fill my belly”

Different activities help the students learn and grow. In the poetry workshop, students write on the chalk boards, the dense text is the result of their learning.

6. Volunteers Comments

I am honoured to be part of these activities.

Firstly, interacting with the children enriches my own learning.

Secondly, we have a better understanding of life in Liangshan and these children’s hopes and plans for the future, and we are touched by their enthusiasm.

I hope these activities will keep growing and improving, so that more people can appreciate the value of these libraries. And I hope more people will join in these activities.

 

Ayi Library brought knowledge and warmth to the children of Liangshan.

In the activities, both volunteers and students both gain from the interactions and the reading.
