Fu Hui Starlets' Longest Winter Holiday
For this year's winter holiday, we could not gather, we could not travel ..... What got us stranded at home for almost 2 months? It was the novel coronavirus - which wantonly gave us a nonfestive new year - keeping us at home even now in April, an exceptionally long winter holiday..... Despite the extra long winter break, starlets have been busy during their coronavirus quarantine - picking up odd jobs, helping their family on the farm, doing online lessons, researching recipes, creating artwork, and so much more - everyone has been making productive use of this "down time". Let's take a look at some of these wonderful holiday activities.

There is a wonderful world out there, take every chance to go see for yourself. After exams, many starlets began working - 37 starlets spent their winter break working in electronic factories in Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Huizhou in Guangdong province. This was a special winter break, their first time living independently out of province, but because of the coronavirus they couldn't go home, couldn't continue working, and then when they finally returned home they had to self isolate. A trying and scary time, but they also gained a lot. Below they share some of their work experience:

Work location: Shenzhen Bao'an District
Work Period: 46 days
This is my first time working.
Although I'm all grown up, my parents didn't want me to leave home for work. This winter break, I finally managed to persuade my parents to let me travel with my friends to go out of town to work. On our trip, we saw such a different world - all kinds of landscapes and sights, it was like a gift! Some of us had motion sickness and slept most of time, it was regrettable but little did we know it was just the start of more hardship to come.
When we finally arrived after travelling for 2 days and 2 nights, our employer got us settled and left us to meet with another group of new arrivals. Before he left, he reminded us that since we're away from home, we needed to take care of ourselves and pay attention to safety and such. The next day, we excitedly started work. After our supervisors showed us the ropes, we got into the work, they were quite supportive and friendly, and I thought all my worrying was for nothing. After 4 days, Chinese New Year vacation began. We were told at school that we would get 3 days off, but the break was eight days. We got restless and tried to find temporary work but because of the coronavirus, most places were closed. The only work we could find was with a moving company. I truly learned the meaning of hard work. It didn't matter that this might be your first job or that you might be exhausted, they only looked at the work results. No one said take a break if you're tired.... We were afraid, afraid of the coronavirus. But we kept on, whatever will be will be, we continued to do the temporary jobs, working 17 hours, until 4 or 5 pm every day. The longest shift I worked was 34 hours - I thought I would pass out, but I persevered, and was quite proud of myself! When we were doing the temporary work we had to take our body temperatures every day. If someone had a fever, they must self isolate. I was very worried - if I got a fever I would be quarantined and wouldn't be able to go home. Luckily I was fine and I made it home eventually, much to my parents' relief.
I have a lot of mixed feelings about this experience. Life is like a rich soup - we must experience the sweet, sour, bitter and spicy before we can grow up. The hardships now will help me face future difficulties with less fear.
Home Life
Although starlets do not have deep pockets to donate to the country, everyone can take care of themselves to not add burden to the country. They helped with chores in the house and on the farm, continued with home studies and cultivated their hobbies....
My Challenge
When there are dreams, wonders never cease. Besides helping out around the home and the family farm, some starlets challenged themselves with new endeavours such as choreographing new dances, taking pictures while watching their family herds, etc - enjoying the joys of home life.
Dance - People's Teacher School starlet LoGuAYi
During this winter holiday that was extended by the unexpected outbreak of the coronavirus, I waited every day for the news that school would resume. But then I thought this was not so bad - I could use the time to practice my dance and hone my dancing skills. With much enthusiasm I went after dinner every night to practice in the Art Club studio. My passion and determination got the attention of two folk dance teachers who recruited me to be their assistant instructor of street dance class every evening. From this, I got to try out choreographing - I managed to choreograph 3 dances over the holidays. This wasn't a huge achievement but was definitely progress. This daily practice has not only improved my dance, it also elevated my mood so I could go home and happily rest each night!! I'm really grateful for my interest in dance - I could always find something to do to while away the time. I hope more people can dance with me - it is much healthier than video games!!
