Six Fu Hui Volunteers Receive 2020 Ontario Volunteer Service Awards
Due to the pandemic, the Ontario government held a virtual event to honor the 2020 Ontario Volunteer Service Awards recipients. Six Fu Hui volunteers were recognized at the March 4, 2021 event. Subsequently, President Judy San and Director Bing Wu invited these award recipients to a Fu Hui recognition zoom meeting to thank them on behalf of the Fu Hui Education Foundation Board.
During the call the volunteers shared insights about their volunteer work. A few have been in the Letter Writing group corresponding with the students in China, providing them friendship and guidance. This work is so meaningful that over a hundred Fu Hui graduates have now joined the letter writing to provide support and encouragements to the students coming up behind them. All the volunteers expressed their wish for the pandemic to be over soon so that in person visits in Liangshan can resume.
Fu Hui's secular work in supporting education in China and the Indigenous of Canada relies largely on the contributions of volunteers who make all the various programs possible. Fu Hui is grateful to the efforts and commitments made by all the Fu Hui volunteers in the past 17 years, and congratulates the following six award recipients: Louisa Yue-Chan for receiving the ten-year service award, and Maria Lee, Youpeng Lee, Grace Wong, Man Kuong Cheung and Paula Zhao for receiving their five-year service awards.
