Hoist Self-Confidence Banner, Display Artistic Brilliance – Fu Hui Stars Community Activities

To develop organization, strategy, management and other skills, Fu Hui Stars did their community work at LiangShan Art Forest Summer Camp.

Fu Stars and Art Forest connected last year when Fu Stars volunteered at the camp, realizing much benefit. This year, the 10-day camp started on July 10 at SiChang LuMeng School. Fu Stars volunteered again, and were responsible for planning evening activities, teaching knowledge they learned in school through fun exercises.

July 10 – Welcome Day

First day – filled with pleasant surprises.

Icebreaking Exercises

Getting to know each other, breaking the ice through fun activites.

Flower Drum Song

When the music starts, a prop is passed around the circle. Whoever is holding it when the music stops gets up to introduce themselves and demonstrate their talent. Everyone got into the game, getting to know each other through fun and laughter.

Banding with Numbers

 

In this game, students form groups based on the number commands called out by the organizers. If the group size and number called out don’t match, the group does a group performance. This game succeeded in helping the students mingle and engage, enhancing their cohesiveness.

Rebel Exercise

 

As the name of the game suggests, students are to do the opposite of the organizer’s directions! This challenges everyone’s coordination as well as add continuous laughter.

Movie Classroom

 

Students gather in a classroom to watch the well known movie “When Happiness Knocks”, experiencing how courage and love coexist with hope and dreams. Encouraging everyone to bravely face challenges and not give up. As the protagonists in the movie says “if you have a dream, you must fight for it.”

July 11-20 – Summer Camp Activities

This year, the Fu Hui student volunteers at LiangShan Art Forest Summer Camp planned and led a rich evening activity program which included dancing, crafts, debate and drama. Activities were designed to facilitate learning, blending fun for the campers as well as helping the Fu Stars apply their own knowledge.

Handicraft Classes

Arts & crafts can nurture creativity and develop patience and attention to details. Three classes were offered: flower making, toy making and home decorations.

A Flower for You

What happens when inspiration and creativity meet paper and scissors? Let’s look into the flower making classroom.

After volunteers showed pictures of finished products and explained the instructions, small groups discussed their ideas and took scissors to paper, making bouquets of “fresh” flowers.

 

Stitching Childhood Dreams

With needle, thread and a rich imagination, campers were patiently guided by volunteers and cheered on by each other to make simple cotton-filled stuffed toys.

 

Home Décor

Paintings express the artist’s perspective while adding decoration to a room. Each painting reveals individual style and personality! Volunteers explained composition, colours and painting techniques which became unique works of art when campers used their imagination and creativity to produce paintings full of dreams and hope.

Dance Class

Volunteers planned dance classes to encourage self-expression. After the warm ups came dance lessons. On the playground, campers learn various dance steps from their volunteer dance instructors.

 

Debate Competition

Campers enthusiastically debated “Should students join extracurricular activities”. Audience, campers and organizers all engaged with energy and passion, articulating their points of view, developing their analytical and oratorial skills.

 

In the end the “for” group won narrowly by one vote. All campers exhibited excellent attitude and etiquette during the competition.

Achievements Gala

At the conclusion of the evening program, Fu Star volunteers organized a gala “ 2021 LiangShan Art Forest Summer Camp Art Show” on July 18 to showcase the campers’ hard work. There was an art show of all the campers’ creations as well as a dance performance.

 

At the show, volunteers and campers poured their hearts out in song, dance and games on centre stage. Their confidence dancing and passionate singing were rewarded with praises and applause. The show concluded with a video recorded, edited and produced by the Fu Hui volunteers. The evening finished with animated conversations and laughter under a starlit sky.
