Alumni Program - Our Stories
Program Leaders' self-introduction
Zhengmin Su
I am studying law at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. I was a recipient of Fu Hui scholarship. I volunteered Fu Hui’s summer camp in 2017. Since then I have participated in other Fu Hui charitable activities, experiencing the Fu Hui spirit of love and caring. In 2019 I started the program of “Liangshan A’Yi Student Aid”, with a group of about ten members. In 2021, with the help from Fu Hui, the A’Yi Student Aid Foundation was established. The program continued to grow and members have expanded to several hundred.
Even though this is not a very large charitable initiative, every project under this program grows out of Liangshan student needs, including Education Subsidy, Seminars, Winter/ Summer Camps. Part of the Education Subsidy funding is raised through monthly donations from campus and others in the community to set aside $1 a day to help the students from poor families. To date, there are over 140 donors, raising over $70,000 in two years, allowing more students receiving financial help. This kind of grassroots fundraising approach helps with future grassroots activities, and makes the project keep self-developing besides the funding s from Fu Hui.
Fu Hui has helped countless Liangshan students over the past decade. I wish my actions will encourage other Fu Hui grads to join this project or generate more Fu Hui Alumni programs to pay it forward, doing what we can to help.

I graduated some years ago, and work in Huili County now. The last few years I’ve been assigned to Butuo County as First Secretary, working on poverty reduction. I got a Fu Hui scholarship when I attended Liangshan Minority Middle School in 2008. I was lucky to have the help, and got the idea to do what I can to help people around me. When I was a freshman at Xichang College I joined the Yi Minority Loving Acts Club. I was deeply touched the first time we delivered supplies to the people in the Mountain district. I saw the difficulties students faced in studying and basic living conditions. I questioned why they had to suffer so much, why their dreams were so far out of their reach. This bolstered my resolve to stay involved with the club. As a recipient of help and also as a helper of others, I fully appreciate the power of kindness. These several years I’ve been helping with education, functioning as a bridge to connect charitable organizations and loving people with the Mountain students, facilitating funding for over a thousand students to complete their schooling. I hope we don’t forget about these Mountain students, and that other Fu Hui students and graduates can also support them by joining Fu Hui Alumni programs, so that those students can achieve their dream to improve their life. Let’s keep going!

I’ve been getting Fu Hui’s funding since primary school. I’m now studying Languages at China West Normal University. The summer after my graduation of grade 12, I had the opportunity to help in the frontline team of Fu Hui Programs. Over several holiday work periods over there, my skill improved a lot. I learned how to use office software, write event proposals, and organize activities. From a shy person who was too nervous to answer simple questions, I transformed into someone who can independently manage and organize activities. I am very grateful for these opportunities. This past summer, with the help of Uncle Xie and Sister Huang from Fu Hui frontline team, I established the “Little Maple” charity club. I was one of the seventy Fu Hui students who set up summer activities such as Summer Tutoring, Senior Home visits, Rural Literacy, Scam Prevention Campaign and Short Video Production Competition for Charity work etc. Through these activities we not only improve ourselves, we also provide services to people around us!
In the new school year Fu Hui Alumni will start a new series of charitable programs. I hope more Fu Hui students will join our team to work together and bring smiles and warmth to those people around us.
